I just can't deny the itch any longer!!
6mm samurai!!! I would vastly prefer 3mm, but 6mm is as small as they can be found. The first thing is to get a few reference works, as I honestly know nothing about the painting of them, necessary colors, etc., nor how the armies were organized. So, stand by for future developments.
Lord, I'm going to be in such trouble!!
How exciting! I too succumbed to the lure of 6mm samurai, but they never made it onto the paint table before I had to down size and on sell them. I had the Killer Katanas rule book. Silly name, but the rules looked ok on an initial read through. There are lots of great Samurai websites. I recommend The Samurai Archives as a good research starting point.
ReplyDeleteI need Killer Katanas too
DeleteSometimes that itch has just gotta be scratched.........hasn't it?
ReplyDeleteI agree! Honey, did you see what Ray said?
DeleteSengoku Period? Had the itch but in 15mm, but like other projects it had to go. Anything by Stephen Turnbull is a good starting point for Samurai reference, not sure what is in print now.
ReplyDeleteI believe so. Baccus calls it "Age of Warfare". It seems to be the 16th and early 17th Centuries. I've picked up a couple of Turnbull's books. I'll get one or two more before I start buying figures and painting
DeleteIt is a wonderful and dangerous route to take. My 6mm collection now resides with my 15mm and 28mm Samurai. Baccus does both the Sengoku Period (15th/16th Century) as well as some 14th Century Models (mounted Archers and Warrior Monks) The Sengoku ones are well detailed and the Sashimono make them easy to differentiate on a tiny battlefield.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite eager to get started! But given the costs, I'll have to go slowly
DeleteVery nice and colourful Samurai! :) Looks like a very nice project...!
ReplyDeleteProbably a fairly expensive project too, but then, what project isn't?
DeleteThere are also Black Piwder and Hail Ceasar fan made supplements for samurai. Also kings of war and impetus lists.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!
