After much excited chattering in Thai, the gift was duly unwrapped and was pronounced an unqualified success!
I thought I had better choose something with a minimum of assembly required. What better than an M577?
Now begins her research phase. I was informed that she'll give me a list of any paints we don't have (with about 150 here already, I think it unlikely that there is going to be much on her list), as well as letting me know that I need to get some appropriate decals. Always the planner, is the Missus.
She's also asked me to dip into my photo collection for some M577 photos that I'm positive were taken in Vietnam. No reason all of you shouldn't share with her, so here we go:
She's already noticed that she has the option to go with an mobile command post or a field ambulance. We'll see which she chooses. More when her project is completed!
First time I see someone soo excited about a M577... an ACAV maybe...
ReplyDeleteAnyway post a picture when she finish. After seeing her GHQ infantry I am eager to see what she can do in 15mm...
Oh, she'll insist that I show you all her accomplishment!
Deleteviewing them will be my pleasure, so maybe I will paint another batch of my 15mm Vietnam stuff too...
ReplyDeleteby the way, where you got the last historical picture? I think it shows some ARVN M113/M577, at least the gun in the foreground is from a M41.
Just something I blundered into on the Internet somewhere. Actually, I would judge the barrel in the foreground to be an M109
DeleteSeems quite slim to be a 155mm maybe a 105mm of an M108? I admit my acquaintance with (real) M109 was with later models so I can be wrong. Still the muzzle brake seems small for even the earlier 109.
ReplyDeleteI think because we're looking out over it. The fume extractor was disc-shaped, as in the photo. I think the barrel looks fore-shortened because we're looking along it.
Deletepossible... now... why I want to buy and paint a 109? ahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteFOW makes them, but honestly, with a realistic range, it should never actually be on the table. It should be just be an "off table asset"
DeleteI know... this is the reason I did not buy them when they did the vietnam sale. I have several in 6mm and plan to buy more in 3mm... Oh I have an IDF one in 15mm just to smash buildings with direct fire... but I love SPGs... and this come from a former cav guy...
ReplyDeleteO8 makes some very good ones
